One of the most common frustrations students have with placement is the back-and-forth. You find a preceptor who seems like a great fit, only to discover they don't meet your program's specific requirements. Wrong specialty. Wrong credential. Wrong clinical setting. Weeks of outreach, wasted.
School partnerships solve this by putting your program's rules directly into the matching engine, so incompatible matches get filtered out before you ever see them.
What a School Partnership Actually Means
When an NP program partners with Preceptor.Network, they share the specific requirements their students need to fulfill for clinical placement. This typically includes the required preceptor credentials (NP, MD, DO, PA, etc.), acceptable practice settings, specialty or population focus, minimum supervision ratios, and any state-specific rules.
We encode those requirements into the matcher. When a student from that program creates a profile using their verified school email, their program's rules are automatically applied. They only see preceptors who actually qualify for their rotation.
Why This Saves Everyone Time
Without this, the burden falls entirely on the student. You find a preceptor, get excited, start the paperwork, and then your clinical coordinator says "actually, we need a board-certified FNP for this rotation, not a CNS." All that effort, gone.
With school requirements built into the system, that mismatch never happens. The student sees a curated set of preceptors who already meet every criterion. The preceptor sees students whose programs they're actually eligible to supervise. Both sides skip the dead ends.
What It Looks Like for Students
If your school is a partner, you'll notice it during signup. After verifying your school email, your program's requirements populate automatically. You don't have to manually enter your rotation type, required preceptor credentials, or acceptable settings. It's already there.
Your matches are pre-filtered. Every preceptor in your results meets your program's requirements. That means when you request a match, the conversation starts with "let's figure out scheduling" instead of "let me check if you even qualify."
What It Looks Like for Schools
For program directors, the partnership means visibility into how many of their students are actively searching, how many have matched, and where the gaps are. If half your students need a psych-mental health placement in Michigan and there are only two preceptors available in that area, you know about it early enough to act.
It also means fewer last-minute fire drills. When students have better tools, clinical coordinators spend less time fielding panicked emails and more time on the parts of their job that actually require their expertise.
Not Partnered Yet?
If your school isn't a Preceptor.Network partner yet, you can still use the platform. You'll enter your requirements manually when you create your profile, and the matcher will work the same way. But if you think your program would benefit from a formal partnership, let your clinical coordinator know we exist. Sometimes all it takes is one student asking the right question.
We're building this for students and preceptors first. But schools that want to be part of the solution are always welcome at the table.
